more pics received today. I visit the workshop this afternoon to see the thing in real. Absolute beauty, even before wood is stained.

hi birdhouse,

the "strings grille" are only there to make them look good and cool when not singing, of course they will be removable just like sonus faber's guarneri which i once owned and still loved. :)

no, if they come with box and baffles and drivers, then would not be a 'kit" any more..haha

Have to make our own bin and baffle. Designer recommend owner to express creativity in the asethetic design. I am trying to take this to extreme.

I will try to duplicate the Sonus Faber type of "violin string" speaker grille, with a twist from my own taste...let's see

i add one more hole on the top baffle to accomodate one of my favourite paper cone tweeter from isophon. So i will have a choice of the original compression driver tweeter "airforce" as well as the vintage isophon 13cm special tweeter

This is how the original Bastanis Mandala/Atlas kit looks like. Too unexotic for my taste.

Creation of my new beautiful "diy" speaker - Bastanis Atlas
As some of you know from "fullrange, se and t-amp" thread, I am building a open baffle kit based on the famous German Bastanis Atlas open baffle speaker. I have been waiting for my company's window display contractor to start the work and it has taken much longer for him to start than I originally contemplated. Fortunately souncing of material completed one week ago and assembly are now in process, at last. I am not content with the original look of the Bastanis kit so I have to, as usual, impart my own creativity and imagination with the help of my contractor's machinery and tools available.

Material are as prescribed in the original kit. Baltic (finland) 1" thick white birch multiply.

Today my contractor sent me some photos of one of the wood pieces. Itf features the cello's F-hole symbol. He has the CNC cutting machine for this purpose. Wonderful!!

This will be, hopefully, the most beautiful speaker system that I have ever owned.
