' How can you have a tonearm that cannot adjust VTA ? '
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Brits used to think that VTA is not important.
My old SME and Rega arms could not change VTA.
Setting TT, tone arm and cartridge was not that precise then, but they called it musicality.

record mats are for tuning sound just like record clamps. What works for one type of sound may not work for all. How can you have a tonearm that cannot adjust VTA ? !! @@

Dr,

The funk firm offers two options, one is 5mm thick turntable mat as standard, or the option of 3mm thickness as compromise if VTA cannot be adjusted. Said to make improvement on any turntable.

Just a thought process, but yes idler wheel with motor controller. Trying to make the TT more user friendly for homes so they can fit into their system with relative ease, but at the same time can upgrade as well. Any suggestions welcomed, but no real thought on material selection yet.

Dennis,

What is that?
Have you read the article by Roy Gregory in audiobeat in modification of Linn LP12 using bamboo material as plinth?
I've used a bamboo board from Ikea under my phono stage and the results were amazing. Most important it is dirt cheap.

Abstracted from web:

Setup by Neal Jackson and Arthur Khoubesserian in a garage workshop based in Catford, London, Pink Triangle were in business from 1979 to 2003. Initially producing unique and innovative turntables and later releasing outstanding DAC’s and CD transports. They were the first company to use a one piece solid acrylic platter and an inverted spindle bearing. In the digital domain they achieved amazingly low jitter rates by employing a multi-stage phase locked loop for clock recovery. Their reputation such, that many other manufacturers consulted them or implemented their DACs e.g. DaCapo.

After the demise of Pink Triangle, Arthur Khoubesserian went on to found Funk Firm and continue producing innovate turntables

>And I am pretty sure a normal size steak cost relatively less in the US than a Steak and Kidney pie in UK around the 80s. <
________________________________________________________________

There was (probably still is) this 24hr restaurant in California called Danny’s , and they had the steak and egg breakfast for about $10.99 in the mid 80s.

I remember there was one summer that I had this serious jet lag when I returned to the US after spending the summer in Hong Kong. Basically, I never saw sunlight for 4 days.

I got up every day at around 3:00 am and went to Danny’s for the steak and egg breakfast. The size of the steak was around 8-10 oz, and the set included scramble eggs, bacon and sausages, a pile of pancakes, and of course, all you can drink coffee!

A decent size breakfast I would say!

Exactly!

You wouldnt have such horrible creation iin the US of A. And I am pretty sure a normal size steak cost relatively less in the US than a Steak and Kidney pie in UK around the 80s.

I brought it up because no one outside of UK could picture how terrible the taste from its name. And if you happen to have a chance to try on, I am sure you would need more than 8 pints to clean your throat! Its basically beef dice and kidney dice inside a pie. I have zero idea how they make it but 10/10, no one in this world can enjoy more than a few bites. Well, other than the old English.

Thats also why you never see them around outside of GB.

You are suppose to eat the pie first then 8 pints of beer not 8 pints of beer first !! <
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

With Steak and Kidney pie. You not suppose to eat and drink after or drink and then eat.

You swallow it with the beer to help it down your throat as quick and possible. And 8 pints may just be enough to help you survive and sufficient to clean the after taste.

Up to present day, I still drink lots of English tea. Steak and Kidney pie, cant remember the last time seeing one on my plate and dont want to see one again on my plate lor!

Of the very few Brits turntables I have at my den now, I say the Alpahson and the Wilson Act two are the king and queen. The Linn and PT would be Prince and Princess. The Heybrook TT2 was just a peasant but has recently granted to a Knight with a new sword (The terminator).
