回覆 (109): faux painting

Morning gents,

On wall paint icefox, faux finishing/painting been around for years, used in more ways than you can imagine. You properly only noticed the effects in the photo because of the hi-fi gear. The faux technique is to create an illusion/effects on a surface to trick the eyes using paint. You can pretty well turn any boring surface into marble, plaster or even wood! During the 80s, used it a lot in restoring old wooden columns, fireplace and mantelpiece in old heritage homes in US and Canada, back then, it was the cheapest way to make old things looked glorious! Trouble was a new generation of pre-fab building products came in and dominated the 90s (culture marble, vinyl wallpapers and textured wall-coverings...etc) and took over the market. Many of the faux painters I knew (mostly women) ended up restoring antique furniture and doing special paint effects on trucks, automobiles, exotic motorcycles....etc, think the money was a lot better too!

It's call faux finishing. The work shown in your photo is badly done, here's an example of what "faux" looks like at elementary level.

I dunno why, I like the feel and styling of this wall paint very much. Given the interior design expert here, is this painting style hard to do?

回覆 (118): Interior Design - Nov 2010

This 1867 San Francisco warehouse project really not an easy task. Restoration of heritage buildings in general is a pain-in-the-ass , but far more extreme in San Francisco because of seismic regulation - cost a fortune in reinforcement to keep the old brick walls erected! Often this type of projects cost a lot more money than building a new structure.

I passed by queens cube everyday, yet no real estate agent ever bother to pull me inside to inspect the unit. How disappointing!

Morning gentlemen,

As audiophiles, our nature is such that we continually seek improvement in all walks of life. Understandably, this same desire or expectation extends to and includes the space we live and work, how a smart interior design can effect the way we feel about ourselves. Average home owners often try to play the role of "interior designer" while decisions are really being made by their ignorance under the guidance of contractors seeking to do less work for more money. While I've been busy with my own warehouse project, limage is also in the heat of things with his new home (and a new music room!). During the course of our endeavors, some interesting discoveries on new (and very hip!) products. This piece will be the first of a two-part series on new alternatives in creating a living / working space of audiophiles' standard. Let's start with this little "home elevator" call the Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator.
