Still no luck with the scanner cartridge. I 'm getting a bit worry now that it might be thrown away!

Anyway managed to find some digitised images not yet posted.

Dear Jules.

Thanks for your comments, but what's market price of M6?

Rollei TLR have 3 mainlines

1) Rolleiflex
2) Rolleicord
3) Rolleimagic

I would suggest Rolleiflex as this line is the top of the line and the reselling value is much better.

Rolleiflex have 3 minor line used different lens Planner, Xenotar and Tessar.
People said Planner is the best. For me, the different is not that large and meaningless. Meanwhile, the lens will have F2.8 and F3.5 choice and focus length 70mm is standard.

Maket price is start from HKD2,000 to HKD20,000.

This is my Rolleiflex Tessar F3.5 just cost me HKD1500 only but lots fun for me.

Correction: M7 shutter is battery dependent. It leaves with two mechanical shutter speed to use when the battery or the electronics is gone.

TaiMonShing, with my limited experience film is only better than digital when the image is printed. Problem is decent film processing lab is getting harder and harder to find nowadays. I like going to TungShing at SSP. It still uses traditional optical printing. The image is spectacular especially on enlarged prints. Another of my favourite lab is Colorluxe at Wanchai Jaffe Road. Having said that with photoshop, it opens up a lot of opportunities for digital so one doesn't have to rely on the lab anymore to process your image, provided if you know what you are doing and willing to spend hours in front of the computer to fiddle around with loads of functions more than an amatuer capable to handle . Another area which film still beats digital is b&w photography. Of course if you are using Rollei large format, it beats digital (and film135) without a doubt.

Going back to your questions. Firstly I aint a leica expert and I never used a M2 to M4. M2 to M4 don't come with metering, and don't offer full range of framelines on the finder as m5 to 8. On the otherhand, many claims m2 and m3 and early m4 are better built camera with bronze machined body and nicer shutter sound. For a first time leica M user, I reckon M6 is the proper place to start. For me m2 and m3 are for more leica collectors than carrying around day to day. I wouldn't spend my money on a M7 unless you wanna buy a brand new film leica still in production. M7 doesn't have all the manual shutter speed choices that other M cameras feature, and instead it has aperture priority function.

Leica lense is a much more complicated story. Generally speaking the names refer to particular aperture, for eg. Summicron = F2, Summilux = F1.4, etc etc. I can't afford the latest ASPH leica lense, which some claims no longer retain the leica signature feel. My opinion is to go for a 35 and 50 pre-ASPH summicron and lux to start of with and you won't go wrong. They are all time classics. For those on a budget VC are very nice lense at a fraction of price of leica.

Go to Hong Kong Leica Fans Club website, where you will find more expert opinions on leica and lots of used leica cameras and lense to choose from.

By the way I wanna try the Rollei TLR camera. Which model would be a good starting point?

Dear Jules hing,

I total agree what you said. DSLR for me is only used in some events like wedding party that need fast respond on shutter and focus or underwater photographing. Honestly, I am a film lover. Wide range of camera I am using, like Horizon, Rolleiflex, Lomo LC-A, Holga, even Polaroid. The different is just like CD and LP. Someone said is similar but I find is sky and land differ. Of course, I am very interested on Leica too but lack of people can share their experience to me.

So, if you don't mind that I would have lots question to ask you, haha.
I found that's some body that M2,M3,M4 are not too high cost. Does it has large different with M6. M7?

There is few different line of Leica lens. What's the main different?

My little share of my Rollei :D

I 've been looking all over my home past several weeks to try to locate my nikon film scanner cartridge without no success. i suspect my daughter misplaced it somewhere.

So i 've put this thread on halt for a while.

TaiMonShing hing, I never own a SLR, neither film nor digital. SLR is too bulky for me to carry around. I like RF compactness and low profile which suits my style.

But then if you enjoy taking macro of flowers and insects, shooting pictures of birds from a long distance, capturing sport events, or fireworks, SLR surely has its edge over RF.

I never mount a flash light on my leica, and never use a tripod, which I reckon defeats the purpose of using a RF. I prefer capturing the mood of available light. A nice thing about DSLR is that it permits using high ISO beyond what film camera is capable.

Price of new Leica is insane. I ''ve to admit I 'm a cheap skate. All my leica bodies and lense are bought second hand. I think buying second hand leica is much "cheaper" than investing on DSLR (or DRF) considering the value in used market.

Leica M is a legendary design with form follows function. Many consider it is a design which cannot be improved any further. But sorry I have to say digital M8 isn't quite there yet. That's also one reason I 'm still sticking with film camera.
